Today we’re going to be exploring 3 ways to optimize your signage. We print signs all the time here at Pinnacle Press for everything ranging from political campaigns to golf outings. We spoke to Jeff Kelly, our in-house graphic designer, and got some tips on how to make the most out of your signage.
First, let’s knock out a few ground rules when making your sign and then we can dive in a little more in-depth. The basic necessities for making a sign are:
- The right placement or environment (Where is it going?)
- Proper messaging that attracts and relates to your audience (Who should care?)
- The right material to accommodate its environment (What is it made of?)
- A clear, easy understand and eye-catching design (Wow, that looks cool!)
Now that we have those basic rules of sign making out of the way, let’s dive in to some of the specific things we like to think about when designing signs here at Pinnacle Press!
Tip 1: Optimize Your Signage Design
We want your signage to get your customers to stop, and actually pay attention – not just casually walk by. This means we normally think a little outside of the box! We encourage creativity and want to help you look for new and impactful ways to deliver your message through a fresh design – without sacrificing the parts of your brand that you hold near and dear. We’re not here trying to redesign your logo, just want to make your sign pop.
Tip 2: Use your signage to strengthen your branding.
Anytime a customer sees your brand on a screen or in person, it increases the possibility of them remembering your name when they need a service you provide. This is an opportunity you should not take lightly when it comes to reinforcing your brand presence with customers. We like to make sure that we keep things like logos and brand colors in mind when developing the creative for your signage. That way we can make sure that we’re helping create consistent memories of your brand in the minds of your customers.
Tip 3: Use color to inspire action.
Did you know that colors each have specific ties to psychology and emotion – and that these traits can actually influence purchasing decisions? Let us give you an example. Have you ever noticed that almost every “50% OFF SALE” type of sign incorporates the color red? This is because it’s psychological proven that the color red is associated with excitement in the human mind. The stores just want you to be HYPE to get a discount on whatever they’re selling!
On the flip side of this, the color blue is associated with more calm tones. Specifically, blue is associated with feelings of trust and dependability. That’s why most medical and healthcare focused businesses utilize this color in their logo design. The more you know!
